John PAGE 1804-1863

a farmer at Langham, Essex and Ingham, Suffolk

HOME PAGE

John PAGE was born around 1804 at Boxted, Essex. He married Eliza PAGE at Boxted on 5 Oct 1824, by banns with permission from parents. He lived at Woodhouse farm, in the neighbouring parish of Langham, in 1841. Woodhouse or Wood House farm, later known as Maltings farm, was on the Langham Road just south of the junction with Park Lane (see map, below).
At the time of the 1851 census, John Page farmed 1200 acres (about 4.8 sq km) at Neville farm in the parish of Ingham, (north of Bury St Edmund's, Suffolk), employing 20 labourers and 6 boys. The birth places of his children suggest that he was not there for many seasons.
By 1861 he was again at Wood House farm, Langham, probably as a tenant, farming 300 acres, employing 9 men and 4 boys. Woodhouse farm was part of the Langham Hall estate which comprised around 1,334 acres, just under half of the whole parish.

Children of John and Eliza Page:

John Page died 9 Feb 1863 aged 58. His wife Eliza died 21 Jul 1868 aged 63.
