Thomas and Caroline PHILLIPS
Thomas PHILLIPS was born 12 Oct 1815, and baptised 12 Nov 1815
at St Mary Magdalen, Bermondsey, Surrey, the son
of Thomas and Ann PHILLIPS (see below). His father Thomas was a carrier. He married
Caroline HORLEY on 29 Sep 1839 at Southwark St Saviour,
Surrey. He was a boot maker and lived at 25 Bermondsey Street (1839), Grange Road (1841) and Webb Street (1851),
in the parish of St Mary Magdalen, Bermondsey, Surrey. Caroline was from Bookham in Surrey, but her abode given in 1839 was Chiswick.
Signatures in parish register, 1839
Children of Thomas and Caroline PHILLIPS:
Thomas PHILLIPS, b. 1840.
Possibly Thomas Charles PHILLIPS, a Corporal in 7th Hussars, at York Cavalry Barracks
aged 31 in April 1871, whose name, age and birthplace coincide. He married Hannah NELSON in 1871.
By 1881 he was a bank messenger in Leeds. In 1891 he was living in Oldham (Waterloo Street), and
still in Oldham in 1901 at Hathershaw Hall. He died in 1902 aged 61.
William PHILLIPS, b. 22 Jan 1843; marr.
Jane DICKINSON
I believe Thomas Phillips died fairly young, and in 1859 his widow Caroline Phillips was married to
James CHEAL.
James and Caroline Cheale(e) were living with Caroline's son William PHILLIPS in Bermondsey in 1871. I believe
Caroline Cheal died in 1878, St Olave District, Southwark.
Thomas PHILLIPS married Ann GRAY on 17 Feb 1812 at St Mary Magdalen, Bermondsey, Surrey. (source: IGI).
